Let me guess.

Someone told you TikTok was the place to be if you want to sell digital products. So you downloaded the app, had a look around, and immediately thought: *“This isn’t for me. Everyone on here is young, dancing, and doing things I would never do in a million years.”*

And you nearly closed the app and never went back.

I understand completely. I felt exactly the same way.

But here’s what I know now that I wish I’d known then: TikTok is not just for dancing teenagers. It is one of the most powerful free marketing tools available to anyone selling anything online — including women over 40 selling digital products from their phones.

You just need to know how to use it in a way that feels right for you.

## Why TikTok Works So Well for Digital Product Sellers

Before we get into the how, let’s talk about the why — because understanding this will change how you think about the platform.

TikTok’s algorithm is unlike any other social media platform. On Instagram or Facebook, your posts are mostly shown to people who already follow you. On TikTok, your videos can be shown to thousands — or millions — of people who have never heard of you before.

That means you don’t need a big following to get seen. You don’t need years of credibility or an established audience. A single video from a brand new account can reach exactly the right people if the content resonates.

For a beginner with no audience and no following, that’s extraordinary. It levels the playing field in a way that no other platform quite does.

## What Kind of Content Actually Works?

Here’s the good news: the content that works best on TikTok for digital product sellers has nothing to do with dancing, trending sounds, or being entertaining in a performance sense.

What works is being real, being helpful, and being specific.

**Talking head videos**

You, on camera, talking directly to your audience. Sharing a tip, telling a story, answering a question, or explaining something useful. No dancing. No filters. Just you being genuine.

These are some of the highest-converting videos on TikTok because they build real connection and trust. People buy from people — and when someone watches three or four of your videos and feels like they know you, they’re far more likely to click your link.

**“Did you know” style educational content**

Short, punchy videos that share a useful fact or insight related to your niche. Easy to film, easy to watch, and great for reaching new people.

**Story-based content**

“I used to think… but then I discovered…” style videos that take the viewer on a mini journey. These perform brilliantly because stories are how humans naturally connect and make sense of the world.

**Myth-busting content**

“You don’t need [common misconception] to sell digital products” is a format that works incredibly well — because it immediately speaks to the fears and doubts your ideal audience already has.

**Behind-the-scenes content**

Showing your phone, your Stan Store page, your sales notifications, your simple setup. Making the whole thing feel accessible and real.

## Practical Tips for Getting Started

**Keep it short to begin with.**

Videos between 30 and 60 seconds tend to perform well for beginners. You don’t need to say everything in one video — save something for the next one.

**Talk to one person.**

Imagine your ideal viewer and speak directly to them. “If you’re a woman over 40 who has been thinking about selling digital products but doesn’t know where to start — this is for you.” That kind of specific opener stops the scroll immediately.

**Don’t obsess over production quality.**

Natural light, a tidy background, and clear audio are all you need. Your phone propped against a book on a windowsill is a perfectly good studio. Content matters far more than production value.

**Post consistently, not perfectly.**

Three videos a week, showing up regularly, will outperform one perfect video every fortnight every single time. Consistency builds momentum. Perfectionism kills it.

**Always have a call to action.**

At the end of your video, tell people what to do next. “Link in bio if you want to find out more.” “Follow me for more tips on selling digital products.” Simple, direct, and essential.

**Don’t check your views obsessively.**

Early videos often get modest views. That’s normal and fine. The algorithm is learning what your content is about and who to show it to. Keep going.

## What to Do If You Hate Being on Camera

This comes up a lot — and I want to be honest with you.

Being on camera gets easier. Almost everyone feels awkward at first. The people you see who seem natural and confident on video felt exactly the way you feel now when they started. They just kept going until it became normal.

That said, if you genuinely cannot face being on camera right now, there are alternatives. Screen recordings, text-on-screen videos with a voiceover, or slideshow-style content can all work — though talking head videos tend to convert better for building personal trust.

My suggestion: start with one video. Just one. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Post it, step away, and then do another one. The discomfort fades faster than you think.

## TikTok Is a Long Game — But It Pays Off

You probably won’t go viral on your first video. You might not go viral at all — and that’s completely fine.

What TikTok offers, when used consistently over time, is a steady stream of new eyes on your content, new followers who become part of your community, and new buyers who find you because a video happened to land in front of exactly the right person at exactly the right moment.

That’s not magic. That’s just showing up.
