How I Went From Confused to Confident Online — And How You Can Too

There was a time when I had absolutely no idea what I was doing online.
I’d hear people talking about selling digital products, building an audience, creating content — and I’d nod along while secretly thinking: *“I don’t even know where to start.”*
Maybe that sounds familiar.
Because here’s the thing nobody tells you when you first start exploring the idea of building an online income: everyone starts confused. Every single person who is now confidently running an online business was once exactly where you are right now — overwhelmed, uncertain, and wondering if it was even possible for someone like them.
It is. And I’m going to tell you how the shift happens.
-----
The Confusion Phase Is Normal (But It Doesn’t Have to Last Long)
When I first started looking into digital products and online income, I made the mistake that most beginners make.
I tried to learn everything at once.
I followed dozens of accounts. I watched hours of YouTube videos. I downloaded free guides, signed up to email lists, and ended up with more information than I could possibly process — and no clear idea of what to actually *do*.
That’s not a learning problem. That’s an information overload problem. And it’s incredibly common.
The internet is full of advice. But very little of it is organised in a way that tells a complete beginner: *“Start here. Then do this. Then do this.”*
That gap — between having information and knowing what to do with it — is where most people get stuck. And it’s exactly why so many people give up before they’ve really begun.
-----
The Turning Point: Simplicity Over Everything
The shift for me came when I stopped trying to do everything and started focusing on the simplest possible path forward.
Instead of trying to build a complicated business from scratch, I asked one question: *“What is the smallest, simplest thing I could do to get started?”*
That question changed everything.
Because the answer wasn’t “build a website” or “learn graphic design” or “grow a following of thousands.” The answer was much simpler than that.
It was: find one product, find one platform, and tell one person about it.
That’s it. That’s the beginning.

What Confidence Actually Looks Like
Here’s something I want you to know about confidence — because it’s often misunderstood.
Confidence doesn’t come before you start. It comes *because* you start it grows day in day as you grow with your business
Every small action you take — setting up your first selling page, posting your first piece of content, making your first sale — builds a layer of confidence that nothing else can give you. Not a course, not a book, not more research.
Action creates confidence. Not the other way around.
So if you’re waiting to feel confident before you begin, I’d gently encourage you to flip that around. Begin — imperfectly, uncertainly, nervously if you need to — and watch what happens.
-----
You Don’t Have to Figure It All Out Alone
One of the things that made the biggest difference for me wasn’t a tool or a platform or a strategy. It was having support.
Having people around me who had already done what I was trying to do. Who could answer my questions without making me feel silly for asking. Who could say *“yes, that’s normal”* when I felt like I was the only one struggling.
Community matters more than most people realise when you’re building something new. It keeps you going on the days when you’d otherwise talk yourself out of it.
